WATER METER LEAKS 


Answer:

Ask the caller to try to determine the source of the leak.

  • If there is a leak anywhere between the meter and the house, the repair is their responsibility to make and the homeowner should hire a plumber to repair the leak.
  • If there is a leak on the line that runs from the meter to the street, the City is responsible for making this repair. Please create a service request for meter leaks using the service request type "HPW- Meter Leak"
Tips to Completing the Call
  • You must tell the caller it may take up to 14 days to investigate these requests.
  • If a citizen has a question about their water bill (i.e. a bill adjustment), transfer the call to Customer Account Services at 713-371-1400.
  • If the leak was caused by contractors during the installation of an electronic meter, transfer the caller to the Meter Shop Dispatch Office at

  • If the caller is requesting a water meter accuracy test, please create a Meter Leak service request and select Meter Inaccurate.   Also, the form to request a meter inspection can be found

Note: Customer Account Services (CAS) may be required to charge for testing your meter. Fees for this service will be charged if the meter is found to be accurate and is still within the manufacturer's warranty period. If the meter is found to be inaccurate, test charges will be waived or removed.
